About These Old Things
Hello,
My name is Natalie Nathan and I am the owner of These Old Things. And,
as with many
small business owners, I am also the chief cook and bottle washer.
But, before saying more
about myself, I would like to thank you for visiting this site and hope that
you will find a
treasure. I make every attempt to provide authentic collectibles as
well as honest descriptions
for each collectible being offered for sale.
These Old Things is my fifth career, the prior careers being architect,
educator, financial
representative, and associate editor. Now maintaining a collectibles
business is my passion.
I became interested in "old things" when I was quite young.
I remember spending endless
hours in my grandparent's basement during summer visits. I loved the
green washing machine
with the wringer, the old ice box, the empty and filled mason jars, old
books and vogue patterns
my aunts used to make their clothes. And then there were all the boxes
filled with "stuff." My
grandparent's basement was just a great place to be, cool, quiet, and full
of treasures.
After my many careers, while deciding which direction to take, I took a
vacation to the
Berkshires in Massachusetts where I learned about antique collectives.
Before coming home, I
rented space in a shop in upstate New York. It was a very lucrative
business venture. After
moving north of Boston, I needed to be in a shop closer to home and found
what I was
looking for in Newburyport. For five years sales were excellent but at
some point things
changed and the collectibles market in the northeast diminished.
While working as a contractor (also known as a temp) I learned about
obtaining a URL, and
web page software. With the help of colleagues and a high school
senior, my web site was up
and running in February 1999.
I truly love this business, but more than anything I love learning about and
researching
the collectibles I find before offering them for sale. I hope you
enjoy your site visit. Your
business is important and you are a valued customer. I keep in touch
with customers
throughout the year as you are also a part of my collectibles network.
My mission is to
support your passion for collectibles.
